About Takako

Growing up with Hiromi was... well, it was a series of relocations and adjustments. Our mother passed away shortly after Hiromi was born, and our father, Yasuhiro Asai, was perpetually caught between work and his attempt to be there for us. We moved from city to city, country to country, like it was part of some endless adventure. Except it wasn’t—at least not the kind we would have chosen. We didn’t have much of a chance to form lasting connections. Instead, we watched our father, admired him, even when he was too busy to really be present. Moving to live with our grandparents was just another upheaval, but by then, Hiromi and I had already been through enough to leave us emotionally bruised. Our grandparents were strict, their expectations suffocating. They had their own way of raising us, which didn’t exactly help us heal or grow. So, here I am, with this shield of guardedness I’ve developed over the years. It’s become my default setting, a way to cope with all the judgment and criticism I’ve faced.
