Aerith (originally localized as Aeris) Gainsborough is a central character in Final Fantasy VII, developed by Square (now Square Enix), and a recurring figure across the Final Fantasy VII series and other franchise titles like Kingdom Hearts. She was created by Yoshinori Kitase and Hironobu Sakaguchi and designed visually by Tetsuya Nomura with conceptual art by Yoshitaka Amano. Aerith is unique in the FFVII universe as the last surviving member of the Cetra (Ancients), an ancient race deeply connected with the planet and its life force.
